Environmental policy
Costa Brava Divers carries out its activity with the aim of combining excellence in service with a strong commitment to environmental protection.
Our work takes place in an exceptional setting: the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, and especially in the area surrounding the Medes Islands, one of the most iconic and valuable marine environments in the Mediterranean. Working in this privileged environment further strengthens our commitment to acting responsibly and respectfully, while actively contributing to its conservation.
Our mission is to offer our clients a high-quality experience while also safeguarding the natural environment that makes it possible. To achieve this, we promote a management approach based on continuous improvement, pollution prevention, control of the environmental impacts arising from our activity, and the sharing of the natural values of our surroundings with clients, partners and our team.
Within this framework, the fees collected in the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park, especially those associated with diving activities, are mainly allocated to the management, conservation and improvement of the park itself. These contributions directly help preserve the ecological richness of this unique area and ensure its long-term sustainability.
In 2018, we strengthened this commitment by adopting the ISO 14001 environmental management system, an international standard that supports our way of working in accordance with principles of quality, responsibility and sustainability.
At Costa Brava Divers, we believe that the best way to enjoy the sea is to protect it. That is why our entire team works every day with professionalism, dedication and environmental awareness to deliver excellent service and contribute to the conservation of an extraordinary natural environment.
Citizen science
At Costa Brava Divers, we understand the protection of the marine environment as a shared responsibility. For this reason, we promote and take part in citizen science initiatives, which bring scientific knowledge closer to society and involve visitors, divers and sea lovers in the conservation of the environment.
Citizen science helps us observe, record and share information about the marine environment in a useful and participatory way. Through these actions, we contribute to detecting changes in the ecosystem, monitoring species, identifying possible impacts and raising awareness about the importance of protecting marine biodiversity.
As part of this commitment, we have carried out different initiatives related to the observation and dissemination of knowledge about the marine environment, such as the actions shared on our social media:

These activities strengthen our commitment to a more conscious, responsible and respectful way of enjoying the sea. We believe that every dive, every snorkelling trip and every observation can become an opportunity to learn, share knowledge and contribute to the conservation of the natural heritage of the Medes Islands and the Costa Brava.
With citizen science, we do not only observe the sea: we also help to understand it better and protect it.
Where does the Medes Islands Partial Nature Reserve fee go?
The Medes Islands Partial Nature Reserve fee is a contribution paid by people who take part in regulated activities within the protected area, such as scuba diving, guided snorkelling or freediving. This fee is not only a cost associated with the activity, but also a tool to directly support the conservation, management and improvement of one of the most valuable marine areas in the Mediterranean.
The amounts are €5.15 for scuba diving, €2.95 for guided snorkelling and €5.15 for freediving. These resources are allocated to different actions that are necessary to maintain a balance between public use of the reserve and the protection of the natural environment.
An important part of the fee is used for the maintenance of perimeter and activity buoys, which help organise the areas of use, prevent uncontrolled anchoring and reduce the impact on the seabed. It is also used for training and raising awareness about the values of the park, so that visitors, divers and users can better understand the ecological importance of the Medes Islands and act responsibly.
In addition, this contribution helps fund the scientific monitoring of the reserve’s conservation status, which is essential for understanding the evolution of habitats, species and the possible impacts of human activities. Finally, it also supports conservation and improvement work on underwater habitats, essential actions to preserve biodiversity and ensure that this environment remains a natural area of reference.
In short, the Medes Islands Partial Nature Reserve fee is a direct contribution to the protection of the park. Every activity carried out within the reserve helps maintain, study, promote and conserve this natural heritage, making it possible for scuba diving, snorkelling and freediving to be practised in an organised, safe and environmentally respectful way.
